Terminology
Baluster - one of the series of vertical posts that support the handrail all along the length of the stair.
Balustrade describes all the balusters and handrail together.
Fascia describes any horizontal surface which spans across the top of columns or across the top of a wall
Riser the near-vertical element in a set of stairs, forming the space between a step and the next.
Skirting is the board covering the lowest part of an interior wall. Its purpose is to cover the joint between the wall surface and the floor.
